Africa is electrifying faster than it is preparing for what comes next.

Electric motorbikes are replacing petrol ones across East Africa. Solar home systems are lighting houses the grid never reached. Phone masts, clinics and businesses run on batteries when the power cuts. All of it is good, and all of it is arriving faster than the infrastructure to support it.

Every one of those batteries wears out. When it does, there is nowhere safe for it to go. It sits in a workshop corner, or a storeroom, or a drawer at home. Some of them catch fire. Kenya recycles a small fraction of its electronic waste, and the reason is not that people do not want to. It is that nobody has built the way to collect it.

Revlog builds and operates the infrastructure used batteries pass through. Fire-safe containers leased to the places batteries collect, and licensed collection on scheduled routes. Everything else follows from having custody of the battery.

Because once a battery reaches us, it can be tested. Most retired batteries are not dead. A pack that no longer works hard enough for a motorbike still holds most of its power, and can run a shop, a phone mast or a mini-grid for another decade. That is energy storage Africa can afford, made from something that was going to be thrown away.

And the ones that truly are finished contain lithium, nickel, cobalt and copper. These metals do not wear out. Recovering them means less mining, and batteries built closer to where they are used.

Collection first, then storage, then materials. That is the order, and each step pays for the next.
